We’re two creators in our 50s, running this entire project ourselves as well as the website, the designs, the social media, the writing, the printing, everything. There’s no team behind us, no staff, no funding, no big company pushing us forward. Just two people who love creating things and decided to build a universe together.
One of us is severely sight‑impaired and designs through magnifiers, zoom tools and patience. The other lives with chronic pain and works in small bursts whenever the body allows it. Creativity has become the thing that helps us cope with the rough days and the Burtyverse grew out of that - a light‑hearted, funny, family‑friendly sci‑fi world that gave us something positive to focus on.
We’ve tried lots of creative paths over the years. Engraving. Jewellery design. 3D printing props. We’ve fought through tough competition, visibility issues, platform shutdowns and the usual struggles small creators face in a world where the loudest and wealthiest tend to dominate. It’s hard to be seen when you’re tiny, independent and dealing with health hurdles at the same time but we kept going because making things is what we love.
Eventually we realised we needed a project that was truly ours -something we could build slowly, honestly and without pressure. That’s how the Burtyverse started.
It’s a five‑book sci‑fi series with a warm, funny tone and a storyline we genuinely believe in. Book one is finished and currently being polished. We can’t afford an editor, so we’re doing everything ourselves, which means things take longer but we’d rather take our time and get it right than rush it.
Alongside the books, we’re creating STL toys, characters and artefacts from the universe. Not random models - real pieces of the world we’re writing. We want people to be able to print parts of the Burtyverse and hold them in their hands. It’s a way of bringing the story to life beyond the pages.
We’re sharing the journey early because we want people to see how a universe grows when it’s built by two normal humans, not a big studio. You’ll see early designs, rough ideas, finished pieces and little fragments of the world as it develops. No spoilers - just the creative process, the fun bits, the messy bits and everything in between.
We hope people enjoy what we’re making. We hope the Burtyverse finds the right readers and makers. We hope that our little corner of creativity brings some joy to anyone who follows along.
